General admission requirements
General admission requirements: We require proof of credits in the following sub-areas of English: Anglophone and/or North American literature and cultural studies; English linguistics; history of the English language, and language practice amounting to at least 50 credits, including at least 25 credits in the sub-areas of Anglophone and North American literature and cultural studies, English linguistics or history of the English language.
Specific language requirements: Demonstration of very good English language knowledge by earning the minimum required grade on an internationally recognized test:
a) UNIcert®: min certificate UNIcert® III; b) NULTE-certificate: min. C1; c) Cambridge English Scale: min. 180 d) „International English Language Testing System” (IELTS Academic): min. overall score 7.0; reading und writing min. 6.5 e) „Test of English as a Foreign Language, internet-based test” (TOEFL iBT): min. score 93 ; f) Global Scale of English (Pearson Academic): min. 76
As a rule, the last test (a-f)/ study degree (g) must have been taken no more than two years prior to submission of the application for admission to the Master's degree program (date received).
Proof of very good proficiency in the English language can also be provided by:
a. uccessfully completing a course of study in which English proficiency at CEFR level C1 or higher is specified as an accredited competence objective in the Diploma Supplement within the last two years prior to the date of your application for admission or a.the successful completion of a course of study, which is taught in English as well as certified C1 level in diploma supplement according to Common European Framework of Reference. b. at least four years of English-language secondary school education (including secondary level) together with a relevant Bachelor's degree course in English, both of which were completed in a country in which English is an official language. Suitable evidence includes school reports, curricular regulations and confirmations from the school management, faculty or rectorate of the university. The Bachelor's degree must not be older than two years on application. Applicants who have resided permanently in a predominantly English-speaking country since completing their Bachelor's degree (Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, the United States of America incl. Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom of Great Britain incl. Northern Ireland) are exempt from the time restriction. The selection committee may grant exceptions to the two-year deadline if applicants can provide evidence of continuous language contact at a high academic level in the meantime.
A certificate of proficiency in English must be submitted no later than 30th September (application for winter semester) and no later than 31st March (application for summer semester). An admission without this proof is not possible.
