Iranian and Persianate Studies

General admission requirements

Verification required of academic achievement in Iranian Studies totaling at least 50 credits, including academic achievement in at least two subsections: history, law, politics, anthropology, archeology and arts history, literature, media studies in Iran or the islamic world, religous studies (without theology), islamic philosophy, linguistics, translation, Persian didactic

Specific language requirements: Demonstration of sufficient knowledge of modern Persian of at least 36 credits for applicants whose mother tongue is not modern Persian or successful participation in the language aptitude test offered by Georg August University.

Demonstration of sufficient English language skills on the level C1 by earning the minimum required grade on an internationally recognized test:

a) UNIcert®: min. certificate UNIcert® III; b) NULTE-certificate: min. level C1; c) Cambridge English Scale: min. 180 points; d) „International English Language Testing System” (IELTS Academic): min. Band 6.5; e) „Test of English as a Foreign Language, internet-based test” (TOEFL iBT): min. 93 points; f) Global Scale of English (Pearson Academic): min. 76 points. g) Other certificate on level C1 or higher (CEFR).

As a rule, the last test (a-f) must have been taken no more than three years prior to submission of the application for admission to the Master's degree programme (date received).

Applicants, who successfully completed a course of study, which is taught in English as well as certified C1 level in diploma supplement according to Common European Framework of Reference are excempt from this requirement.

Also excempt form this requirement are applicants, whose mother tongue is German or who can provide a proof of their language proficiency in German on C1 level (DSH-II). These applicants have to provide proof of their language proficiency in English on B2 level by earning the minimum required grade on an internationally recognized test: a) UNIcert®: min. certificate UNIcert® II; b) NULTE-certificate: min. level B2; c) Cambridge English Scale: min.160 points; d) „International English Language Testing System” (IELTS Academic): min. Band 5.5; e) „Test of English as a Foreign Language, internet-based test” (TOEFL iBT): mind. 59 points; f) Global Scale of English (Pearson Academic): min. 59 points; g) Other certificate on level B2 or higher (CEFR).

As a rule, the last test (a-f) must have been taken no more than three years prior to submission of the application for admission to the Master's degree programme (date received).

If applicants have spent at least one year studying or working in an English-speaking country or successfully completed a course of study of at least two years in the English language (proof required) that is also adequate.

Paper documents are not required. Admission and rejection letters will be sent approximately in 4 - 8 weeks.

Unfortunately, module packages (minor subjects) are currently not a part of the process. Nevertheless, you can submit an application for the Joint Honours MA (42 C + module package(s)) now, but you will receive a letter of admission or refusal for the Single Honors MA (78 C). For a possible transfer into the Joint Honours MA you will receive a second letter before the start of the semester (if you have been admitted to the Single Honors MA).

Application deadline for applicants from non-EU states 31.03.2023 (9 days left)
Application deadline for applicants from EU states 31.03.2023 (9 days left)
Deadline for submitting the Bachelor's degree 15.05.2023 (about 2 months left)
First day of classes 08.04.2023 (17 days left)
